“The harp is an instrument of great beauty, and I love to play with beauty.”
—Julia Haines, musician, composer and harper

Contemporary bardic harper, an independent composer, a multi-instrumentalist, teacher, and music therapist.

Called  a “harper among harpists” and a ‘hip harper” by the Irish press, First Prize Winner for harp and voice at the O’Carolan Festival, Keadue, Ireland, I love to make music that showcases the fusion of my interests in traditional, classical, improvisational, experimental and contemporary music. Having studied with some great musicians of traditional, jazz improvisation and new music, these influence my unique approach to the lever harp.

Women's Energy, Paradox and Passion

Thunder: Perfect Mind

Thunder: Perfect Mind

This poem, dating back almost 2,000 years, is the mysterious Nag Hammadi text in which the infinite Great Mother calls out in the voice of sacred women’s energy, paradox, and passion. I set "Thunder: Perfect Mind" to music for voice and harp after meditating on the words for over a year. "Thunder: Perfect Mind" poses mythic questions, taking us on a journey to retrieve the Feminine Divine, the essence of beauty in our world.
